John Brooks: The state of the Island was in general uncultivated and presented the appearance of a forest, a few green fields, like oases in a desert, were to be seen along the shore. Alexander Anderson: Bears, wildcats or Loupcivears, Foxes, Martins, Rabbits, Minks, Muskrats, Otters, Squirrels, etc. Char/es Anderson and Robert Anderson: Bears, martins, wildcats, foxes, etc. John Brooks: The Bear, the Louserver and the Fox, the latter of which were so numerous that they would howl around the dwellings of the first settlers and keep them awake at night.
