SDU Class of '51 Anniversary, July by George Keefe 50* Anniversary, July 2001 Your thoughts float back today to that first day, that early autumn day when the train deposited you in the shadow of Dalton Hall and you strode to the campus up the path flanked by the stately trees no one could name in Father Dick 's botany class. And soon you learned the meaning of each bell: the bell to rise, the bell to mass, the bell to class, the bell to lunch, the bell to study, the bell to chapel, the bell to close the books for the night. And who could forget the professors, the lectures, the exams, the labs, the library, the choir, the Glee Club, the Red and White, the debating teams, the pranks, the initiation rites in Freshman year, the bull-sessions where we all got to say our say. We recall with pride our success on the field days: Cash and Murphy dashing their way to glory, Ayers on the hammer throw, Bun on the tug-of-war. Not to forget those excelling in other sports: rugby, hockey, basketball, softball, you name it For most the years have been kind but others drew a short breath of life and we miss them, wish they were here. So let us raise our glasses high for all the world to see: "Here's to the Class of '51, here's to St. Dunstan's , our university."
