Jim was born in Wellington, P.E.I. Oct. 14, 1925, the son of Charles E. Ayers and Isabel Goodwin. He received his elementary education at Wellington Center, then enrolled at Prince of Wales College for High School, and graduated from St. Dunstan's University with a Bachelor degree in Commerce in 1951. He took further courses in Education and Psychology at Ottawa University and the University of Washington, DC.

During the Second World War, Jim served with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve , as a telegraphist on ships at sea , again with the Canadian Army in Korea, with the United Nations Observer Group in Lebanon and with the United Nations Emergency Force in Egypt. He also served in Infantry Brigades, an Armoured Regiment (RCD), and as Resident Staff Officer at UNB, Sacre Coeur and St. Thomas Universities. He was Staff Officer in Ottawa and Washington DC. and on completion of his military career became Senior Warning Officer P.E.I. He worked with the Canadian Cancer Society in PE]. for two years then returned to DND as a civil servant as Director of Emergency Preparedness RE. I. Jim retired from Department of National Defence afier 43 years of service in 1992

Jim married Eileen Walsh in 1954 and had five children. Eileen died in 1998. The two older boys in the family, James Wayne and Charles Emmett were killed in a highway accident in 1984. The three younger family members are all married, Michael David working in the Oil Industry in Alberta, Leonard Joseph with the Provincial Govemment in FBI, and Ann Isabel as an RN, in Mississauga, Ontario.

The Korean war in 1953 was a very important part of Jim's life as was his work as Resident Staff Officer at the New Brunswick Universities. He
