enjoyed his work at the Ordnance Depots in Montreal and London Ont, as well as being attached to the Infantry Brigade and the Armored Regiment, the Royal Canadian Dragoons.. His tour of duty in Egypt and Lebanon and his duties in the Staff Officer position in Ottawa and Washington, brought him into contact with many interesting people and situations. Being Provincial Warning Officer in PEI, and Coordinator of the Military Events at the time of the RBI. Centennial, was icing on the cake as this made use of Jim's highly honed organizational skills and love of military protocol.

Jim says that some of his most satisfying experiences came from his training responsibilities with Officer Cadets in New Brunswick, and with his peace keeping duties with the Arabs and Israelis. His staff work at Army HQ in Ottawa and at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC, brought him into contact with some of the very complex problems of military and political life in both countries. In addition to his work in these various settings he found time to visit museums and battlefields in Afi’ica, the Middle East, Japan and USA. Through the courtesy of a Southern Ireland Officer friend who served with Jim in Lebanon, he attended Pope John Paul's first public Consistory at Vatican City in Rome.

The most memorable recollection of his time at St. Dunstan's for Jim was the insight he gained from the Catholic milieu at the college and the discussions with class mates and other students. The Proms ,The Holy Name Club, professors’ personalities, the football and hockey battles, the Red and White, the water fights, the many nicknames, the girl friends, the risks and chances taken for liberty outings, the exams and finally, graduation. All these were the mix that enlivened and made bearable the hours in class and study.

Jim comments that he misses St. Dunstan's, and he cannot shake a sense of betrayal with the throwing away of Catholic education. "Betrayal to our ancestors who gave us St. Dunstan's; the deal was wrong, deadly wrong. Let those who can; be satisfied with the pieces of silver and the present melange”. During his career with DND, Jim engaged in extra activities as follows: Coach in Minor Hockey Leagues, New Brunswick, Ontario, Washington DC, and Charlottetown. P.E.I. President of Minor Hockey P.E.I.. Cub Scout leader Ottawa. President of United Services Officers Club, Charlottetown. Charlottetown Hospital Board, Member. President, Canadian Cancer Society, P.E.I. Aide de Camp to His Honor Gordon Bennett, Lieutenant Governor, P.E.I. Coordinator of the Regional Terry Fox Run for Cancer of P.E.I. Adviser to the Steve Fonyo Run for Cancer on P.E.I.

Jim now spends his winters in Palm Harbour Florida on the Gulf of

Mexico. He enjoys golf, gardening, the Gulf of Mexico breezes and the shirt sleeve weather.
