Francis Russell Beagan Deceased
Russell was born 5th of April, 1928; the third in a family of five sons to Jethru and Lena (Trainor) Beagan, Donagh, Prince Edward Island. He attended the one-room Donagh School for grades] to 10; completed grades 11 and 12 at Saint Dunstan’s High School; obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Saint Dunstan’s in 1951; a Bachelor of Education at Ottawa University; and a Master of Education at Saint Michael’s in Vermont.
While attending St. Dunstan’s , his summers were spent working as a carpenter with his uncle in and around Charlottetown, with the exception of one summer which he spent as a bus boy at Jasper Park Lodge. Following graduation from St. Dunstan’s Russell was employed by Island Tel And Tel in Charlottetown and attended Holy Heart Seminary, Halifax for a short period of time.
Early in 1953, Russell went to Saint Jean, Quebec where he was employed by the Department of National Defense as an instructor at the RCAF School of English. While in St. Jean he formed the nucleus of a closely knit group of Maritirners working
