Paul was born March 9‘“, 1933, and obtained his early education at St. Croix, in the Province of Quebec. His father owned a foundry which dealt with various kinds of metals. Paul worked in the foundry during his school years and became fairly proficient in understanding metals and their attributes which led to his later career choice. Another element in his decisions about his future was meeting the engineer father ofa young lady in

Charlottetown, while he was attending St. Dunstan’s University. In discussions with this gentleman Paul became intrigued with the idea of

engineering as a future work and followed this up by attending McGill University School of Engineering with emphasis on metallurgy.

Paul completed his final year in the BA. program at St. Dunstan’s and graduated in 1951. He earned his degree in Engineering at McGill in 1956 and returned for further study in engineering (management) at the
