Tommy joined the Canadian Army with the Ordinance Corps soon after graduation and studied in England in 1954-55. In England he became a specialist in dealing with ammunition having completed the "Ammunition Technician Course for Officers". Thereafter, he served in various parts of Canada for the next thirty-two years dealing with the Canadian Army 's problems in the storage and maintenance of munitions. In the latter part of his career he served for eight years with the Federal Public Service, again using his expertise in dealing with munitions and explosives as his specialty. On Sept 6th, 1952 Tommy married Doris Hawes . They had six children and to date twelve grandchildren. The oldest in the family; Sharon Ann Kearns has an R.N and a B.Sc . in Nursing after her name. She lives in Nepean Ontario and has two girls. The second eldest Mary C. Bassett lives in Prince George , B.C. She has two boys. Tommy 's namesake; Thomas E. Flynn , MSEE, lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba . He is the father of two boys and two girls. The fourth in the family; Patricia Osborne , like her older sister Mary, also lives in Prince George , B.C. She has a boy and a girl. The second youngest, Brian J , lives in Nepean , Ontario . He has two sons. Daniel J , the youngest, has a Bachelor in Science degree, lives in Ottawa, and is single. Tommy had a very special tribute paid to him by the Canadian , Halifax, in that they named a building after him at the Base in Halifax. It is called the T. E. Flynn Building at CFB Halifax. Tommy died in Halifax on April 2, 1990.
