Charlie was born April 9th, 1926 the seventh child of Thomas Gorman and Amy Mullen who had seven children. He attended elementary school at Kensington, Prince Edward Island, high school at St. Dunstan’s and completed his BA. also at St. Dunstan’s in 1951. He then completed a B Ed. at St. F.X. and an M.Ed. at Ottawa U.

Charlie was an accomplished speaker and his hobby while at St. Dunstan’s was school politics. In a campus wide vote in his junior year Charlie was elected Student Union President, an onerous and responsible position which he handled with ease and distinction. Before his election to this chief executive position, Charlie was active in other organizations: Executive International Student Service, 49-50 and President Junior Class, 49-50. At Montreal in 1950 he was elected National Vice President of the Canadian Federation of Catholic University Students. In every year in college life he played a leading role either in his own class or in larger student body organizations.
