Frank was born April 14, 1930, the fifth child of a family of seven children, to Thomas Ledwell and Anna Gillis of St. Peters Bay, P.E.I. He attended Elementary School at St Peters, High School at St. Dunstan’s, and completed his B A Degree at St. Dunstan’s in 1951. He was accredited in Engineering Math in 1960 and received his Masters of Arts in English in 1965 at Notre Dame, Indiana, US.
_ Frank began his teaching career as High School Principal and as teacher at St. Dunstan’s in 1955 and continued there until 1961. He then sewed as an instructor in the Engineering Faculty froml959 to 1963. He had earlier spent a year as Rural Teacher in 1946-47. He was a Professor at St. Dunstan’s in the English Department from 1965 to 1969. When St. Dunstan’s became part of UPEI in 1969 Frank continued as Professor of English in the newly created University through to 1996. From 1970 to 1975 he was Departmental Chair and from 1979 to 1983 Frank served UPEI as Dean of Arts.
Among the many awards Frank has received is the PEI Heritage Association Award, the First awardee for Outstanding Contribution to Literary Arts on PEI and, upon retirement, he was awarded the designation of Professor Emeritus.
