Elmer had a number of significant events in his life besides his man'iage, the ten children and 19 grand children: he and Elizabeth bought a house in Florida, where they vacationed and a cottage close to Ottawa where all the family vacationed. Elmer provided fi'ee dental work to those less fortunate and also provided free dental work to immigrants who had just arrived in Canada. He loved to work as a dentist and would get up at 5 am, cook some fish for breakfast, and hum a tune in anticipation of the day to come. He lived his life in day-tight compacts because he knew that life was short and that you only lived once. He ofien said: ”If you live right; once is enough.”

Betty died on April 27m,2001. Elmer has been incapacitated by Alzheimer’s and more recently has suffered a brain injury from a fall.
