Murvin was born May 9‘“, 1930, the fifih ofnine children ofJohn w. and Florence (Baldwin) Mclnnis. His birthplace was Elliotvale, RBI. and he attended elementary school in the same community transferring to Baldwin Road School to complete grade X. He attended St. Dunstan’s high school for grades 11 and 12, then continued at the same institution to obtain a BA, graduating in 1951. He completed a B. Ed in 1953, and an M. Ed in 1964; both at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S.

Murvin has had a long history in the field of teaching and has traveled extensively to many communities where he has practiced his profession: principal and teacher of Grades 9 and 10, Georgetown, PEI, 1951-52; School of English, RCAF Station, St. Jean, PQ, 1953-54 and 1955-57; South Turner Valley High School, Alberta, 1954-55; Saint Patrick School, St. Jean, PQ, ( was one of the two teachers who introduced the high school program to the school ), 1957-60; Sir John Franklin High School, Yellowknife, NWT,1960-61; St. Patrick School, St. Jean, PQ, 1961-62; Principal, Department of National Defence (DND) School, La Macaza, PQ,]962-63; Teacher, Montague Junior High School, PEI, 1963-65; Principal, Central King’s Regional High School, King County, NS, 1956-66; Inspector of Schools, Nova Scotia Department of Education, 1966-91.
