Mildred was born the eighteenth day of July, 1927, the fifth of seven children of Josephine MacDonald and John MacIsaac. She attended Cherry Valley school for her elementary education and graduated from Prince of Wales College Normal School in 1944. At the age of 17 she began teachiing and two years later she enrolled in Sophmore year in St. Dunstan’s College. In 1947 she entered the Novitiate at Mount St. Mary’s to become a Sister of St. Martha. She returned to St. Dunstan’s and graduated in Arts in 1951. In 1955 she began to work on a Master’s of Arts in English at the University of Ottawa which she completed in 1960 by taking her course work during the summer months.

The Congregation of St. Martha agreed to participate in the staffing of Notre Dame College in Welland, Ontario, and Sister Mildred began her work there in 1962. Over the next 25 years at Notre Dame College Sister Mildred distinguished herself, as a teacher of English, a department head and finally as a student counsellor. Periodically she interrupted her work at Notre Dame to take other assignments; one of which was a faculty position at St. Dunstan’s University in 1968-69. From 1970 to 1972 she was Dean of Women at King’s College at the University of Western Ontario. From 1973 to 1981 she served her congregation as a member of the General Council and Formation Director.
