Rosaire began his career in the Federal Public Service in 1954 as an insurance clerk with the Unemployment Insurance Commission in Edmundston. He was promoted to Insurance Branch Supervisor, a position he retained until 1964 when be became the manager of the Canada Employment Centre in Edmundston. In this latter position he became very involved in community activities as the Employment Centre began to relate to each community more intensively to deal with the real problems of unemployment and under employment. Rosaire retired in 1987.
In 1958 Rosaire married Rachel La joie. The have no children.
Rosaire had considerable involvement with community affairs and was elected Municipal Councillor for a term of three years. He was very involved in the Northwest Regional Airport Commission over many years, working in close collaboration with the local M.P. to obtain air services to the area. He was involved from the construction of the airport to the beginning of the first air service. At present Air Nova provide regular air service to the St. Leonard airport.
Rosaire says that what he enjoyed most was the public relations aspect of his work. His consistent involvement in the municipal and area political matters culminated in the establishment of the airport and air service to the surrounding communities. His love of air planes and flying took a more personal turn when he and his brother purchased a Cessna 172. With his pilots license and several hundred hours of flying under his belt he, so to speak, got a bird’s eye view of all the countryside in northern New Brunswick. He has since sold the plane.
Rosaire says he enjoyed many of the things St. Dunstan’s had to offer but especially liked the arrangement where students had rooms which gave them more privacy than the dormitories which were a part of many colleges in eastern Canada at that time. Then, the fact that two students shared a room gave each student a chance to meet other people and experience a wider group of friends.
