William Ready was born the 2nd child of 4 children of Margaret Connors and William Ready on the 9'h of May, 1929. He attended Queen Square School in Charlottetown, from which he was paroled in 1944, and was sent to St. Dunstan’s High School by his mother who hoped that the priests would straighten him out. He graduated from St. Dunstan’s with a B.Sc. in 1951.
While at St. Dunstan’s “Fox” as he was known to all his friends, was a member of the basketball team, for four years, and earned his athletic ”D” in basketball. As a member of the C.O.T.C. he earned a commission in the Canadian Army which he later parleyed into a life long career. He was also a member of the intermural hockey champs in 1947 and that same year was Captain of the intermural basketball champs.
Afier graduation Bill joined the Canadian Army (Artillery) with which he served 32 years. He later served ten years in the Army Reserves in Charlottetown, retiring as a Major (Regular Army) and as a Lt.Col (Reserves). Bill says he had a very interesting career from a military point of view but this is probably uninteresting to others. His biggest problem in the military was having to run into Jim Ayers from time to time.
He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration and three clasps, the Jubilee Medal, and the NATO Medal.
