leaders for “Job Finding Clubs” across Canada. He says he was able and fortunate to build up a very solid circle of good friends, some from the working environment but mostly from golf, curling and other sports. Getting his Master’s degree and taking other development courses each year was very helpful to him in his work and social life.

In his work life; being able to function fluently in English and French in meetings, training exercises etc. has been an important advantage. This was especially true in getting the Job Finding Clubs up and running across Canada. Andy initiated this program while he was employed with Employment and Immigration Canada and when he left the Federal Government service there were 400 clubs established across the Country. As to recreation; Andy is a golf aficionado and in curling -as skip- he braves the long Ottawa winters. On a volunteer basis he helps out with various programs for those who have alcohol or drug abuse problems.

Andy’s most memorable recollection of his time at St.Dunstan’s was the opportunity to become active in the various recreation activities such as skating, handball, volley ball and hockey. The before-supper study hall activity under Father Sullivan’s firm eye and hand played a close second in the things he remembers with some fondness. He says that the general education we received while at St. Dunstan’s served him well in many situations in his career. Professors such as Father Elsworth earned his respect and admiration and perhaps served as his role model later on. Firm, fair he was; but friendly was tougher for him to be.”

Andy comments: “Life has been good to me in many ways. I have a lot of good and helpful friends. I even have some family members in the Ottawa area now ( my two nieces). I have enjoyed my work at least 85% of the time and always managed to be able to do what I considered most useful to our clients. I believe I succeeded in staying away from what some consider to be a typical ‘public servant mentality.’ Health-wise, God has been good to me. I have many fond memories of my classmates and some sad memories of SDU friends who are now deceased, e. g. Russ Beagan, Charlie Gonnan and Father Reid.”
