Wilbert’s teaching career included two years in Sudbury, Ontario, but he returned to Toronto in 1964 to take a position at Yorkdale Secondary School, where he remained until his retirement in June, 1987.

On August 30": 1957, Wilbert married Fay Rebman.

In his career as a teacher Will considers teaching math as his favorite subject because he only needs a blackboard and a piece of chalk as his support system. He has won several trophies in chess contests in the Toronto area where the competition is quite good so while he believes he is not quite ready to take on the Russian Masters at this time, with some more practice he may consider it.

Will’s other diversions since his retirement are in landscape gardening, home maintenance such as roof repairs, and in fumiture building. The basis of these skills is woodworking which has always been a favorite pastime. At the present time Will is quite active as a volunteer, visiting a home for the aged where he feeds an elderly lady who is unable to feed herself.

His favorite remembrances of life at St. Dunstan’s is the bull sessions which took place in any number of rooms along the corridor so that any time you did not like the content of one session there was always another one up the corridor. The dances at the Holy Name Hall were also a fond memory of Will’s, as are the bridge games at the College and the nightly skates in the College rink during the winter time.

Will Rooney will long be remembered by his classmates because of his association with his roommate Skinny MacPhee, as they terrorized the campus by their shenanigans and tricks on the other students. No one was spared their devilment; from the young student new to SDU by a day or so, who was directed to the Rector’s room to say goodnight, to the more sophisticated upper classman who was duped into some embarrassing behavior he would rather not have others know about. They were a terrible pair who could always be relied upon to create mischief and fun.
