In this new company Joe spent most of his time between Cranbrook and Castlegar, B.C. Joe was made a Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Joe says that there is one thing about moving around the country, and that is "you meet 'Saints' in the strangest places. Shortly after I moved to Calgary I met Mark McQuaid at his place of work. He knew that Duncan MacDonald was in the same building. When Mark got us together, we did not recognize one another. Since then Duncan and I are great friends and correspond regularly." A very enjoyable leisure time activity for Joe is ancestor search. On a trip to Ireland he found the birthplace of his ancestor Lanty Shreenan who emigrated to Prince Edward Island in 1841 from Aghabog in County Monahan. For Joe, his last move was without a doubt his best move; that was in 1985 when he moved home to P.E.I. "Being close to neighbours and relations is a great feeling*' Joe says that the most enjoyable part of his work life was meeting people from all walks of life in his travels as an electrical supply sales person. Since he retired in 1985 he has been involved in Local Business Development, Senior Citizens Club activities, assisting Research and Coordinating the publication of the book "Around Area" Joe relates an incident in intramural hockey as one of his more memorable recollections at St. Dunstan's : " In my first year (grade XI1 at I played intramural hockey with the sophomore class (Sinnott, Bradley, Mullen, Gavin, etc.). The last game of the year was against my own class. Our team had T-shirts with the name 'Sophs' on the back. Some friend of mine changed my shirt to read 'Slobs'. Needless to say, it was memorable." In his comments Joe says: "I often thought that the five years that I spent at SDU were the best years of my life. We did not have much of this worlds goods but we didn't need much. The friends that I made and the memories that I have are not negotiable."
