7l/,A ipluj Edmond was not assured as he tried to feel his back with his hand. He grappled his trouser suspenders - they had come undone when he was running. So that's what he had felt flopping around on his back. While he was running he had been convinced it was the flat fish still on his back. There were many days spent on the shore. Sometimes Alphy and Edmond would go in the dory with their father to check the nets for cod and other fish. One particular day Alphy was with his father in the dory. Edmond and Josephine had stayed with Grandmere and Grandpere Doucette in . Alphy remembers the ocean water glistening in the sunlight. The fish nets were far in the water and it seemed like a long time before they reached the fish nets with the dory. His father pulled the nets out of the water and checked several of them. They were all empty. Henri told Alphy, "Something has scared away the cod fish." When he pulled the next net up, it wasn't empty, - there was a dogfish • in it. Henri speared it, and commented, "You rascal, I'll not find you in my nets tomorrow." He threw the supposedly dead dogfish back into the water. Henri and Alphy rowed a bit further with the dory. Then when they had reached the next net, Henri pulled it out of the water to find the same rascal dogfish. Henri and Alphy went home without any catch that day.
