JUpk Iptiy Ida was the 'surprise' child. She was a bit smaller than her twin sister. As she grew older, Ida became the 'clown' of the family and 'the life of the party' at social gatherings. She had a good sense of humor. Ida, too, had hazel eyes and brown hair. Her face was also teardrop-shaped. Her most striking feature was her warm smile. She was always jovial and smiled readily at everyone she met. Both Velda and Ida were blessed with a beautiful voice, and during their growing up years, they would spend countless hours playing the guitar and singing. When the twins were a few days old, Margurita was visited by a neighbour named ' La Lynn'. La Lynn was an eccentric, old soul who would always speak her mind. When Margurita seen La Lynn coming up the stairway, she thought, "She must be coming to see the twins." La Lynn came in, did not ask to see the twins, only blurted out, ' Margurita , tell me this - to make a set of twins, did you and Alphy !do it' twice in one night?" When Margurita didn't answer, La Lynn mumbled, "Well, that's what happened to me and Pete." Then without delay, La Lynn left the place, as quickly as she had come in. ( La Lynn and Pete had two sets of twins). With four children to care for, Alphy and Margurita knew it was time to consider a bigger home. Alphy decided he would build a house, but was not sure how they could afford this. Alphy considered going to New Brunswick to work in the lumber camps. He had heard that the wages there were high but it would mean that he would have to leave his family for several months - from the fall of the year until spring. Margurita would be alone with the children during the winter months. Alphy and Margurita discussed this plan, and they agreed it would be the only means of getting a bigger home. In the fall of 1940, Alphy left for the lumber camps of New Brunswick . 69
