When Helen was approximately ten years old she had not received a cake on the date of her birthday. Helen’s birthday is in the middle of winter, and on her tenth birthday the hens had stopped laying. It had been an unusually cold winter, and the hens had taken a break. Margurita had promised Helen a cake, just as soon as the hens produced an egg.

Each day Helen would return from school with the hope that her cake would be made. Each day she would greet her mother with, “Did the hen lay yet?” Finally, after a week of anticipation, the hen had laid and Helen got her cake. It was a happy day, especially for Helen.
