Foreword
My first volume of "Georgetown Stories" proved so popular among residents and former residents of Georgetown that I am encouraged to produce this second volume including additional stories for the earlier dates and extending my coverage to 1982. I have also continued my record of Georgetown events year by year using headlines and other material from the Guardian of Charlottetown, my chief news source. At the back of the book is a listing of dates from 1952 to 1970 when Georgetown news may be found in the Guardian. These are for the assistance of researchers in Georgetown history and those looking for genealogical information in the personal columns.
The cover picture is from the Bea Mair collection. The drawings are those done by R. C. Tuck and used by the Georgetown Heritage Society and other community groups.
I again wish to thank the staff of the Provincial Archives of Prince Edward Island and of the Robertson Library, University of Prince Edward Island, for their always gracious assistance. My thanks also go to the staff of Action Press, Charlottetown, who have often gone out of their way to accommodate my printing needs. Finally, I thank Frank Stevens, editor of Georgetown's monthly newsletter, Time and m, for including much of the material in that paper.
I hope that readers will enjoy these stories as much as I have in researching and editing them.
