Whate’er your place, it is not yours alone but God’s - Who set you there. John Oxenham Sowing the Seed at Green's Shore 1853-1859 resbyterianism has strong, deep roots in the Summerside area. Prior to the founding of Summerside, formerly called Green’s Shore, devout church members met at nearby St. Eleanor’s in Anthony Craswell’s home. Rev. Robert Simms Patterson, who settled at Bedeque Presbyterian Charge in 1826, tried to elicit the support of Hon. James Muirhead, a local politician and businessman, to establish a Presbyterian church at St. Eleanor’s in the 18505. Hon. Mr. Muirhead, a true visionary, realized that the fledgling new seaside community at Green’s Shore to the east was a more promising location and declined Rev. Mr. Patterson’s request. Early Presbyterian worship had begun at Green’s Shore during 1853-1854, with Rev. John M. MacLeod, of Richmond Bay Charge and Rev. Robert S. Patterson conducting services on alternate Sabbaths.
