Acting upon Rev. Mr. Mackay’s suggestion to re- place the church, the congregation soon preoccupied itself with debate about the necessity of such a bold move. The proponents of a new, larger and better situ- ated church were quick to provide reasons: the church on North Market Street required much expensive re- pair work; there was no parking space for the increased use of automobiles; the church was in an area that was becoming more commercially developed; and to be viable in the future it was felt that the church should
