a pastor of the people. During Rev. Mr. Fourney's tenure at Summerside
Presbyterian Church Kenneth Stright, a native son of Summerside, became the first candidate from the church congregation ever to be ordained into the Pres— byterian ministry. A graduate of Mount Allison Univer— sity, and Knox College, Toronto, he was ordained in 1977. Rev. Mr. Stright has ministered in the First Na- tions community of Waywayseecappo, Manitoba, River John and Pictou, N. S., and in three continents, having recently returned from Guyana, South America where he was Acting Interim Moderator for seven months. He is a former Moderator of the Synod of the Atlantic Prov— inces, President of the Atlantic Ecumenical Council, and was named Ecumenist of the Year for Canada in 1996. He is married and has three children. Ken returned to Summerside Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 27, 2003 as guest minister. This was one of the special activities scheduled throughout the year as part of the Celebrate 150 Committee calendar of events.
In 1981 Rev. Mr. Fourney accepted a call from a church in Windsor, Ontario. His ministry in Summerside had been a positive one and a time of growth for the church. Annual reports of the years 1976—1981 reflect a happy church even though there was an ongoing concern regarding the debt on the property.
In retrospect, the period 1950-1981 had been in- strumental in setting the future course of Summerside Presbyterian Church into the let Century. The con- gregation was fortunate to have had three wonderful pastors during this period: Rev. J. Donald Mackay, Rev. John S. McBride, and Rev. Robert P. Fourney. Each was
