JAMES FRASER AND PETER A. STEWART

The last burials in this old cemetery were that of James Fraser, age 66, and Peter A. Stewart (known as Peter the Miller), age 82. Their tragic deaths occurred as the result of an accident. During the winter of 1939, their frozen bodies were found in their home at Harrington. It was decided that they had been asphyxiated by gas from a hard—coal base-burner type stove used for heating, the fire having gone out for lack of fuel quite some time before the bodies were discovered.

The internment was in this pioneer cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev. John C. MacNeil then pastor for the Presbyterian charge of Marshfield, Harrington, Mount Stewart and Highfield.
