PETER SCOTT AND FAMILY OF FRENCH FORT
TOMBSTONE:
Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. Sacred to the memory of our father and mother. Let Faith exalt her joyful voice and thus begin to sing. A Grace! Where is thy triumph now and where, 0 death thy sting.
Peter Scott died Dec. 25, 1852 ae 67. Also his wife Janet died Oct. 29, 1875 ae 80.
PETER SCOTT was born about 1785 and emigrated to the Island from Scotland in 1808. From notes by Ludlow Jenkins, we find that Peter first lived in North River before moving and becoming the first Scott to settle in French Fort, Lot 35. His wife Janet Robertson was born about 1787 and from the Weekly Patriot, December 3, 1875 we read, “Died at her son’s residence, French Fort, on the 29th October, Jennet Robertson, relict of the late Mr. Peter Scott, in the 88th year of her age.”
From the 1841 census we find Peter Scott, farmer, residing with his family in Lot 35. There are seven members in the family: one female under 16 years, 2 females and 2 males age 16-45 years with one female and one male ages 45—60 years. The families origin says three from Scotland and four from PE Island. Religion is listed as Church of Scotland.
It appears that Peter (see The Last Bear in Marshfield article), Elizabeth (see McBeath Family History) and William (see William and Jessie Scott History) were all related, possibly as siblings and for certain as cousins.
