James and Margaret Miller and Descendants

they raised four children: Joan, a retired nurse; Allan, married to Jean McFarland; Madge, married to Ben Callaghan; and Glen, married to Janet Tessyman. Mr. Miller has two grandchildren, James and Allan.

Since 1922 Cecil Miller has been involved in politics, in various capacities, both provincially and federally. His organizational skills were always in great demand and he was and still is, well-known for his ability to get the job done.

In 1966, Mr. Miller was successful in his bid for a legislative seat, and shortly after was named minister of fisheries, industry and natural resources. He was named speaker of the house in 1970, a position he held until his retirement as an MLA in 1978, at the age of 82 . He now resides with his daughter Joan in Charlottetown.

Mr. Miller’s political involvement didn’t cease in 1978. He has continued as a key organizer within the Liberal party, and frequently acts in an advisory capacity. His advice to the young people of today is “get involved in politics.

James Miller b. 1790, Greenock, Scotland; In. Margaret MacRae, b. Highlands, Scotland, (1. 25 Feb 1874, Marshfield. James died 21 Dec 1876, Marshfleld. Margaret’s father was Donald MacRae from Tea Hill.

m. 4 April 1848, Mary Ann Farquarson. Alexander died 9 Jan 1865.

ii John Miller b. 28 April 1821, bapt. St. Paul’s Church, Charlottetown, d. 1873, Marshfield; never married.

iv George Miller m. 2 April 1850 Jane Farquarson. Anne Miller b. 1827.

vi Mary Miller b. 1829, d. 1831, bur. Marshfield.

vii Margaret Miller In. John Robertson,

4. viii William Miller b. 1834.

ix Daniel Miller b. 1839, m. Margaret MacMillan. Daniel died 1897, bur. New Dominion. Daniel and Margaret had three children, two sons and one daughter. Their daughter never married and is buried in New Dominion.

Second Generation

James Alan Miller (1.James‘ ) b. 1824; m. 1 March 1849 Marie Farquarson, b. 1832 in Frenchfort, d. 1906. James died 1894. Both James and Marie are buried in the Community Cem., Marshfleld. Children: i Benjamin Miller b. 1855, d. 16 Jan 1944. Never married. ii William Miller b. 1857, d. 28 Nov 1922, bur. Marshfield; never married. 5. iii James Alan Miller b. 1865. Anne Miller (1.James' ) b. 1827; m. Alexander Robertson, d. 14 April 1880, bur. Bonshaw. Anne died 24 Feb 1916, bur. Denver, Colorado. Children: i Mrs. J .B. Crosby. ii J .A. Robertson.
