Girl Guides, Brownies and Rangers

Marshfield were on the property of John and Helen Munn, and Cecil and Helen Stetson near the Hall. For 48 years, Guide camps were held in farmer’s fields, Provincial Parks, and at Camp Buchan, the Boy Scout Camp. On September 18, 1971, the Provincial Girl Guide Camp was officially opened at Point Pleasant Park. The 74 acre camp near Murray River was named Fairhaven Camp Site. At that time, there were 1700 Brownies, Guides and Rangers and 300 leaders in the Province. Dorothy Bentley of Montreal, who for many years was a Guide leader in PEI, deeded the land to the PEI Council of Girl Guides. Wilderness camping was necessary to complete the Campers Badge and with Camp Fairhaven covered with a dense growth of trees, it became a popular site.

Interprovincial camping was offered in the Guide Program and several Girl Guides from 1st Dunstaffnage Company were awarded these trips.
