Properties and People STEWART TO CARR & OTHERS ( S 3) This property was originally settled by the "Five Mile House " Stewarts and was once part of Tulloch Farm. The ten acres along the St. Peters Road was sold by Peter ( Red Peter) Stewart to Isabel and Grace Robertson daughters of Robert (School Master) Robertson circa 1870. The next owner of the property was a J. Matheson who sold it to Charles (Charlie) Carr. Charlie was a descendant of the Carr family of Stanhope . Charles Carr served King and Country during the 1914-1918 war as amember of the 105th battalion. After the war Charlie lived for a period of time in Boston and was employed as a painter. He married in Boston but his wife died shortly after the wedding. Returning to PEI he continued to work as a finish painter and married Pearl Hardy of . Their son John (Jack) Carr was born in 1931. Charlie and family moved to Marshfield in the early 1930's and this allowed Charlie the time to pursue a great pleasure in his life, fly-fishing. He perfected this art to a science in the tidal waters of the Mill ( Marshfield ) Creek and took great pride in displaying his catches of sea-trout caught on the turn of the tide. He also succeeded in passing the love of fishing onto his son Jack. Jack inherited the property upon his father's death. He married Phyllis Coffin of Charlottetown in 1953. Jack worked with W. R . (Rupert) Godfrey for many years travelling to the Standardbred race tracks throughout the Maritimes, operating the tote-board and photo-finish systems. This was done as an aside to his regular employment as an electrician. Beginning in 1951 Jack was employed by Palmer Electric in Charlottetown . In 1960, together with three other employees, Jack purchased the business where he remained active as a partner until 1992. Jack was a man of many talents and was a member of the Charlottetown Radio Flying Club. He is well remembered for his Apiary, DGK, named after the initials of his and wife Phyllis' two daughters, Debbie and Gail plus son Kent. Jack passed away in June of 1995 leaving the home and property to Phyllis who continues to live there. Phyllis has been a violinist with the PEI Symphony Orchestra since its inception and is also a member of the Abegweit Chimes Lady Barber Shoppers. Debbie is married to John Burt . They have one daughter Melissa and live immediately adjacent to Phyllis. Gail is married to Terry Gallant and lives in Oshawa, Ontario where they have two children Sabrina and Brian. Kent married Sheila Mullen . Their home is also on part of the original property sold by Peter Stewart fronting onto the Lower . Sheila and Kent have three children: Amanda, Cheryl and Travis. Wood TULLOCH FARM - PROPERTY ( S 4) Tulloch is a place name from Inverness -shire, Scotland . This name has been attached to the property since at least the 1870's when the farm was purchased by the Hon . Donald Ferguson . Livestock always played a major role at Tulloch Farm especially since 1897 when A. Henry Boswall (see chapter Dr. Alexander Henry Boswall and Family ) purchased the farm from Senator Ferguson . Together with his wife Mary Ann Irving and two daughters Annie and Lettie, Henry moved to Marshfield in 1897. Henry Boswall bought and moved into the Senator Ferguson house in 1921. The house that Henry lived in on the farm when he moved from to Marshfield , and where two of his children Lyle and Erna were born, was sold to the Lewis Fox Company and later moved to the current day Alfred Smith property in East Royalty . An accounting record dated 1897 showed the purchases and sales of A. H. Boswall Esq. for that year indicating a balance owing to him at years end of $29.48.
