John Colwill (1845), son of Thomas and Prudence (Yeo) Colwill, married Sarah Dyrnent, daughter of Humphrey and Mary Ann (Ashton) Dyment of Port Hill, then after her death, married Mary Elizabeth Cann (1862), daughter of Elias and Mary (Wickett) Cann of Northarn in 1878 and built the house in 1886. In 1917 the original kitchen section was removed, this was hauled to the farm of James MacAusland, and a larger section was added. John and Elizabeth operated the farm
While raising a family of five children:
-Charles (1879) married Elizabeth “Libby” MacArthur (refer to Randy and Priscilla Dyment)
-James Woodland ( 1881) married Mary Agnes MacLean (see next page)
