D. The Hon. Roderick MacAulay, of Georgetown Royalty. He was the son of Donald MaeAulay of Linshadar, Isle of Lewis, Scotland, and came to Nova Scotia and then Prince Edward Island in 1839 under the auspices of the missions of the Church of Scotland. As the Rev. Roderick MacAulay he served the parishes of Murray Harbour and St David’s in Georgetown. He married Jane Hadley, an innkeeper's daughter, of Georgetown and was demitled from service to the church. He took up farming in the Georgetown Royalty and after a few years entered politics as a Conservative. He was member of the Legislative Assembly for Georgetown for many years and served for a time as Speaker of the House. The Hon. MacAulay was opposed to Confederation and spoke publicly against it. His obituary says about MacAulay that if he were more pliable and vacillating he might have commanded greater popularity as a politician and it he had been ambitious as he was modest and retiringas a gentlemen of talent and scholarly attainments he might have enjoyed emoluments of the

highest of frees of the people but was content to live as a representative of his people." (Patriot, Jan. 14, 1882)
