D. Of a sudden heart attack in Victoria, BC, May 3, 1944, Skipper-Lieutenant John Daniel MacPhee, R.C.N.V.R., officer in command of HMS. Armentieres. He was born in Georgetown, P.E.I., the son of Daniel MacPhee. He worked first on the square- rigger, Aquila, under Capt. Senacabaugh, then joined his father in the Klondyke Gold Rush. He took up navigation studies in BC, but went overseas in World War I, in a Vancouver Battalion. He was prisoner-of war in Germany for 26 months but was exchanged and became active in Red Cross work in Holland for the balance of the war. In 190.0 he returned to his position with Union Steamship Lines in Vancouver and was in the Merchant Service. In 1941 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He leaves besides his wife, three sisters and two brothers: Margaret, widow of Capt. J. L. Williams; Gertrude, widow of CW. Rhind; Isabelle (Mrs. S. M. In New Glasgow, N.S., June 6th, by the Rev. 8.6. Manzer, Miss Christine Jeanette, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John L. MacDonald, Georgetown, P.E.I. and Pte. Richard C. F. With full military honors, on Nov. 25th, of Sgt. Wendell Daniel MacKenzie, aged 25, Boughton Island,
son of Mr. & Mrs. John MacKenzie, Cardigan North, who died as a result of drowning at Summerside, at the United Church, Georgetown. He leaves his wife, the former Muriel Allen and three children: Dulcie Eileen; Allen Best; Aurelia Joyce. Surviving brothers are: Pte William Lincoln, US. Army; Pte J. D. At Ste. Anne de Bellevue Military Hospital, Dec. 8th, Pte. Frederick Walker, aged 54 of Georgetown, P.E.I.. Pte. Walker served for four years in the First World War and was a member of the Home Guard in the present war. Surviving are one son, Pte. Walter Walker, Deben, NS, and five daughters: Elsie (Mrs. Wallace Booth), Somerville, Mass; Margaret, Julia, Marion and Bessie at home. D. On active service overseas, Pte. Francis McEachern, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Frank McEachem, Georgetown. After being wounded twice in the Italy Campaign he returned to his unit but was then killed. He leaves four sisters already in mouming the loss of their mother “a few weeks ago." D. On Dec. 3lst, 1944, Mrs. Andrew Lavers, aged 69, nee Clara Henry, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. James Henry, Burnt Point. She was born at Murray Harbour North on Jan. Ist, 1876. Besides her bereaved husband she leaves to mourn her memory two daughters: Elsie at home and Bessie (Mrs. Albert Fraser), Montague, and five sons: Albert, section-foreman at O’Lcary; Earl, C.N.R. brakeman, Charlottetown, David, Quaner—master Sergeant, Deben, N. S: Raymond, R.C.A. F.. Centralia, Ont; and Harry, at home: also two sisters : Beatrice in the U.S.A. and Maude (Mrs. William Hobbs) and a brother, Percy in Georgetown.
