his son was 10 months old. Joseph Jr. grew up on and retained the family farm. He married Suzanna Simons (no relation) of Little Pond. They had six children. Two died in infancy. Suzanna died following the birth of their sixth child, leaving Joseph with four little boys. My father, Lemuel, (Lem) was the second youngest. A few years later, Joseph married Elizabeth Rose of North Lake.
When we arrived on the lsland in 1923, there were seven families living there:

n the late 20's and early 30’s new arrivals joined us, Fred Allen, son of Mac and his wife Louise McLean of Georgetown moved into the old home. Joe and Emily Gotell and Alva Allen and families moved to the Island. That made us a group of six.
At the time we arrived there were two lobster factories operating, The Eastern Canneries and Graham and Llewellyn. both on the East Side. It was always a great joy to me when Chester Llewellyn and family arrived. Their daughter Janie and l were the same age and I looked forward to seeing her every spring when we were kids.
