F O REWO RD Proverb: He who makes no mistakes makes nothing. When the challenge of writing a Lot 16 United Church history was first accepted, a lengthy process was not anticipated; but the writing of history has proven compara¬ ble to the making of a jigsaw puzzle. One small piece of information fails to give a complete picture; thus, another piece or clue is sought and built upon until a clear picture emerges. When the history committee began its work in 1999, it had two sources of information from which to draw: the work of Rev. Thomas Whent and the collection of historical papers of Doris Carr . Clues that were revealed through these sources led to further questions that needed answers. The next step was searching church minutes, archival mater¬ ial, and the works of other historians. The discovery of a rich oral tradition in the church com¬ munity added a new dimension to the project — this formed "Reflections." Many obstacles have been encountered in the writing of the history. However, the committee has worked to put together a cohesive story of the growth of the Lot 16 United Church and its people. Hopefully the history intrigues and connects you, the reader. The history of the Lot 16 United Church has no ending for it is a living history which hopefully will continue to unfold in the coming years. Foreword
