Island. At the same time the business of organizing the Prince Edward Island Presbytery was conducted. This was Rev. Dr. james’ last trip to the Island.

Rev. Wllliam has been described as a man of more than ordinary strength in his service to the church. He was a pow- erful preacher who was greatly loved by his parishioners. His wife, Ann, often travelled with him throughout the various points of the Richmond Bay Charge. In the early years, ser- vices were often held in the homes of settlers. There was very little remuneration for the work of the early missionaries, which was quite probably the reason Rev. William acquired land. His farm ‘Mansfield’ was situated at the intersection of the Southwest and Central roads, extending west on the Southwest Road and south along the Central Road.

In the Richmond Bay Pastorate, Rev. William MacGregor had a long and fruitful ministry spanning 26 years. He resigned on July 15, 1847 because of ill health. His wife Ann passed away in 1845 and Rev. MacGregor died in 1850. He is buried in the Lot 16 United Church Cemetery. 5
