He was educated at Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown , began his career as a teacher, and then went into business. He studied for the ministry in New York and was ordained by the American Presbyterian Church. He answered a call to the church in Cardigan in 1913 before serving as a chaplain during World War I. He served other charges in Wood Islands and . Stewart before coming to East from where he retired in 1926. Rev. Martin was a strong supporter of Church Union . He became ill in 1927 and was treated at Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax. He retired to Summerside and Roseneath , Prince Edward Island . Rev.
