College in Charlottetown. He graduated as a trained teacher and taught one year at Richmond, Prince Edward Island. In 1903, Arthur L. followed his brother Evan to Nanton in the Northwest Territories where the two brothers took up home- steading.21

Arthur Lee worked part time in a lumber mill and learned carpentry. He served as an elder in the Nanton Presbyterian Church. In 1905, he married Kathryn McFadyen.

Arthur Lee’s life took yet another turn when he heard the call of Christian ministry. Arthur and Kathryn moved to Edmonton in 1908 so he could enroll in the University of Alberta. In 1909, Kathryn and her child died in childbirth. Arthur, dealing with his losses, con- tinued his studies and graduated in Arts in 1912 as a member of the first graduating class of the University of Alberta. He then enrolled in Robertson College, a Presbyterian theological college and again was a member of the first graduating class in 19 15. Injune of the same year, he married Anne Pollock of Toronto.22 The couple travelled to Scotland where Arthur Lee studied at New College, Edinburgh University under a scholarship. Twins were born to the couple in March of 1916 shortly before their return to Canada.

Arthur Lee was appointed to the Presbyterian Church in Fernie, British Columbia and ordained there in 1917. In 1918, he moved to London, Ontario to become a Military Chaplain at the Royal Military College. FoHowing the war, he accepted an appointment in West Lorne Pastoral Charge in Elgin County, near London. His son, Arthur Drummond, recalls that his father at Sunday service always portrayed a ‘great sense of dignity.’ Rev. Carr had great interest and zeal for church union.23 He knew many of the leaders of the Union movement. However his church stayed Presbyterian and the Carr’s found themselves without a home. They had to move in with a local bachelor for the winter of 1925. He received a call to Appin United Church in Middlesex County injune 1926.

In 1930, Reverend Carr returned to the west to accept a
