The following is a direct excerpt from Arthur Drummond’s memories of dis- cussions in his father’s church at the time of union.
We were attending a supper meet- ing at Crinan Presbyterian Church. One pious elder stood up and asked this question, ‘If we ‘ join the Union will we lose our VVestminister Confession of Faith?’ Dad replied, as he opened up the book of the VVestminister Cory‘ession, ‘How many in this room have read it?’ No one indi- cated they had. Dad then read to this gathering the Doctrine of Election and the Doctrine (f Predestination, where it states ‘that some are predestined unto everlasting 19%, and others are foreordained to everlasting death.’ Continuing on he asked, ‘Do you believe in that kind of God? — I don’t! ’ He then closed the book. ”
ones in the western farming community and in the churches. Rev. Carr took part of his salary in loads of wood, moose meat, eggs, chickens, dairy products, fruit, and vegetables. He had to borrow a team of horses to travel to his country churches. Through the 19305 and early ‘405, he served several charges in Alberta and, in 1942, was elected president of Alberta Conference. In 1943, he received his Doctor of Divinity and accepted a call on Lulu Island in British Columbia.25 He served the rest of his ministry in BC.
On September 24, 1945, Reverend Arthur Lee suffered a fatal heart attack. He was 63 years of age. His funeral service was conducted by the Vancouver Pres— bytery. Reverend Carr was buried in British Columbia.
The two sons of Arthur Lee Carr fol- lowed in his footsteps in choosing the min- istry as their life careers. While the two men, Arthur Drummond Carr and Douglas Bonar Carr had no direct connec- tion to the Lot 16 United Church, a biog- raphy of them has been included owing to their family heritage with the church. As well an insight is gained into the family and work life of a minister.
