gave him the name of Bonar after the Hymn writer, Horatius Bonar . Douglas, like his brother Arthur and sister Irene, shared the experience of growing up as a minister's child moving from parish to parish, first in Ontario and then in Alberta. Never did he speak in a negative sense of what was required of himself as a child in leaving behind school friends and moving to the next work assignment chosen by his father. Douglas graduated from high school in Lacombe, Alberta in 1939 and successfully completed an Arts Degree at the University of Alberta in 1943. Like his father and his brother before him, he continued on to St . Stephen's College in Edmonton to study theology. Summers were spent in the mission fields. He graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity in 1945, and was ordained into the United Church ministry. His father, Arthur Lee , assisted in his son's ordination. He was serving in his first charge of Beaverlodge, Alberta, when the shocking news came that his father had died of a sudden heart attack. His father's charge, South Arm-Steveston, in Vancouver, requested that one of his two sons take over the charge and Douglas moved into the position in December of 1945. Douglas married Olla Giggar at Buchanan United Church in Edmonton, October 4,1946. The couple had a son, Bruce, born in 1952 and adopted a daughter, Leeanna, in 1955. In 1950, Rev. Douglas moved to First United Church, in Victoria, B.C . as an assistant minister. Two years later he became senior minister at Victoria's Centennial United Church. While in Victoria, Rev. Douglas served as Chairman of Victoria Presbytery and, in his interests outside the church, served as President of Victoria North Kiwanas Club. In 1959, Rev. Douglas responded by answering a call to Pleasant Heights United Church in Calgary. Six years later he moved to Riverview United in Calgary for a 14 year min¬ istry. While in Calgary, Rev. Douglas Carr served as Chairman of Calgary Presbytery and as a member of the board of Mount Royal College. He served as Chaplain for 151 CHURCH MINISTERS
