the Southern Alberta Curling Association for fourteen years. Rev. Carr made the decision to retire in 1979, and taught on a part time basis until 1986. He lives in Edmonton, Alberta.
Rev. Eleanor Mary Can-
The fifth minister to descend from the North St. Eleanor’s Carr family was the granddaughter of Rev. Arthur Frederick Carr. Her father, Percy Carr, was a banker. Eleanor Mary Carr had the honour and the challenge of being the 49th woman ordained in the United Church of Canada in 1961. She assumed missionary work in Africa. Rev. Carr, now retired, lives in Brampton, Ontario.
Rev. Eleanor Carr has never visited Prince Edward Island yet the Carr family of North St. Eleanor’s felt a sense of pride that another descendent continued the strong association to the church.
LAY PREACHERS
he Lot 16 United Church Congregation has in its midst
two certified lay ministers. Considering the size of the rural congregation, and the requirements of the course, this is a noteworthy record.
Edith MacLean and Winston Yeo each completed the three year study program offered by Prince Edward Island Pres- bytery to be awarded accreditation. The first year of study centered on the Old Testament, while the second year focused on the New Testament. The third year could be tailored to studies of the individual’s choice in the areas of preaching, pas- toral care, or Christian education.
Edith MacLean
Edith MacLean began her theological studies in 1979; how- ever, after winning election as trustee to the Unit Two School Board on top of her duties as farm wife and mother, she sat aside the course. Eight years later she left the School Board and retumed to her studies. Edith, as a Christian woman, had a thirst for knowledge regarding the contents of the Bible and believed the lay ministry course would give her the best
