Dear Mr. Woodside,
Thank you and your people very much for your kind invi— tation to preach at the Anniversary service at Central Lot 16 onjuly 19th next. Few things I would rather do, and it so hap- pens thatJuly is my vacation month this summer, hence I am free as far as that is concerned. The barrier however is the expense though even that I would try and circumvent were it not for the fact that my congregation here has given me three months leave of absence this fall and Mrs. Forbes and I plan vis— iting some of our Mission Fields inJapan, Korea, and China and this will take every available dollar and more.
Yes I preached my first sermon in Central Church, Lot 16, and well do I remember my feelings that beautiful May mom- ing in 1898. My text was ‘For I determined to know. nothing among you savejesus Christ and him crucified.’ It was a good text all right but I fear as much could not be said for the ser- mon. However those good people, received it and me, as they
