The Manors are not forgotten as UCW donates small gifts for the residents. Each Christmas, the group adopts a needy family bringing much enjoyment to the membership in the knowledge that those helped are experiencing love and support at a very special time of year. UCW is a very strong support group for the Lot 16 community and church. During that year there were two unions in existence, one for Central and one for Southwest . Worship, study, service, and recreation were the essential features of the program for the Young People 's Union . Fund raisers undertaken were Christmas con¬ certs and bean suppers. Staging a play was a favourite activity and enthusiasti¬ cally supported by the members. So grand was the response to the plays that performances were given across the province during the winter and early spring months. On one occasion, certain members of the group had to make a call at the Summerside in the wee hours of the morning to solicit help in removing a pair of handcuffs from the wrists of Wilfred Hutchinson .
