DAYS OF CELEBRATIONS

SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY

he summer of 1936 was a busy one for the Central I Lot 16 United Church congregation and its minis- ter, Rev. E. Russell Woodside. Not only did they plan the 115th anniversary services of the founding of Pres- bytery, but they also plarmed a big celebration for the six- tieth anniversary of the Lot 16 United Church. July 19 was set aside for the celebration and featured three special church services. The first service was scheduled for 10:30 AM. with two guest ministers. The Rev. G. Ernest Forbes of Weston, Ontario was the keynote speaker. Rev. Forbes was a student minister in the Richmond Bay Charge in the sum— mers of 1898, 1899, and 1900. He was assisted by Rev. B. Vans MacLean who grew up in Lot 16 and was ministering in Lanark, Ontario. Rev. Woodside spent considerable time collecting historical facts about the church and spoke in detail on items of interest.

The 3:00 PM. service featured Rev. John K. Fraser D.D., of Alberton as the guest speaker. Fraser was assisted by Rev. L. E. G. Davies of Trinity United in Surnmerside and Rev. J. B. Wilson of the Baptist Church of Summerside. Song worship was led by the Wellington and Union Comer United Choirs.

The 7:30 PM. service had, as its guest speaker, the Rev. J. Wm. N. Crawford of Toronto, Ontario. Rev. Crawford was the son of Rev. Henry Crawford, who was the minister at the time the Lot 16 Presbyterian Church was built in 1876. He was assisted by the Rev. W E. Aitken of St. Peter’s Bay. The choirs of Lot 16, Lot 14, and Wellington rendered music. Rita and Frank Gamble sang a duet; Kathleen Phillips, of Lot 14, rendered a solo.
