derful stories of Prince Edward Island from an older brother who had located on PEI many years before, also from other friends who spoke in glowing tenns of this wonderful land, after much persuasion, they decided to come and see for them- selves if this was the land of milk and honey. In the spring of 1842, they set sail bringing most of their household furniture and working tools with them. Their voyage was a long one, sailing in a vessel owned by his brotherjames of Port Hill and captained by James’ son. The trip was uneventful with good and bad weather but they were very much tired out on land- ing, but had to look around to see where they could make their home. They found the place in Lot 16. The farm ( Larry Yeo’s property), a little of it cleared, consisted of about 200 acres. They would have a few neighbours, some who came from their old home, not far away in St. Eleanors and Port Hill. There were no buildings on this farm so building a house was their first job. They had no place to live nor could their neighbours help them. There was an unused log school house where the Central School was later located and it became their home during the building. It Was very hard for them, with three small children, but they got the job done and moved into a lovely, large, roomy house. Many a time while the house was being built, they wished that they were back in their former home in England. They missed the working conditions and the many enjoyments of their old home in England. They built a barn, granary, and pig house. Samuel and Nancy start- ed a blacksmith’s shop, a shoe store, and a general store. They were the first in that community to own a four-wheeled wagon which was borrowed by the neighbours far and near if they wanted to go to a wedding or funeral, a few miles away. This carriage didn’t last until the auto took its place for the roads in those days were very rough.
The first Yeo buildings were down nearer the Joppe line, than the Lawrence Yeojr. house which burned in 1977. It was built in 1888 by Daniel Boundy who occupied this farm for a few years.
Samuel and Nancy had a large family,_]ames, Wllliam, and John born in England. Born on Prince Edward Island were T- Charles Prowse, Angelina, Laurence, Tltus, Jabez, Richard
