married Mary Jane Yeo , in 1882. They lived on the farm for a short time before moving to Tyne Valley . Their son, Clayton, was the next to occupy the farm in Lot 16 . In 1913, Clayton married Lorna MacLean from the neighbouring farm; they had a family of three, Erskine, Donald, and Kathleen, who died when she was seven years old. Clayton told many stories about church ministers who crossed the ice on Grand River . They put their horses in the Forbes barn, and Clayton drove them to church with his horse. Clayton suffered with Multiple Sclerosis for over twenty years and died in 1949 at age fifty-nine. Lorna, who kept the farm oper¬ ating during his illness, continued to run it with the help of her sons, Erskine and Donald. Lorna was a member of the Pres ¬ byterian Church, a life member of WMS, a charter member of UCW, and an active Women 's Institute member. She died in 1984 and is buried in Lot 16 Cemetery with her husband. In 1940, their son, Erskine, married Vera Yeo (see Yeo History), also of Southwest , and stayed on the home property. They had a mixed farming operation, growing potatoes, and establishing a herd of Purebred Holstein cattle. Erskine was a member, elder, trustee, and steward of the Lot 16 United Church, and for many years was coach of the local hockey team, 'The Lot 16 Rangers'. Vera is a member of United Church and UCW, and has been a member of the choir for sixty years. She has served on session and been active in Women 's Institute. In 1987, Erskine and Vera sold the farm which had been in the Forbes family name for nearly two hundred years. They had two children, Allan and Kathleen (Kay), who helped with the operation of the farm in their youth and who won many prizes at local livestock fairs. They were both mem¬ bers of United before marrying and moving from the community, Allan to teach at Holland College in Charlotte- town, and Kay Lewis to work in the field of medicine.
