Dorothy was confirmed by Rev. Wm. MacDougall in 1981. She has worked on various fundraising projects, the Board of Stewards, and the Pulpit Supply Committee. She has also been a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent. Presently Dorothy is an elder and is chair- person of the church history financial sub-committee.

The first Gambles in Lot 16 were Sam and his wife, Mar- jorie. In the early 18805, they moved to Lot 16 from Tryon. Of the two, Marjorie was the decidedly more colourful. George Burns once said, “I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury!” This might well have been what Sam was thinking about when he found out what Marjorie’s tem- per was like. To say that she had a bit of an attitude problem would be like saying Henry Ford had a passing interest in cars. The simple fact of the matter was that she could be downright nasty when provoked — as one of her neighbours had the mis- fortune to find out. ‘
Matthew, her eldest son and my great-great-grandfather, had apparently gotten into some mischief and was being chased home by a very angry neighbour who threatened to lay a beating on him if he was caught. Marjorie, upon seeing her frightened son run into the kitchen looking for protection, immediately sprang into action. She seized a kettle of boiling water off the stove and bolted out the door towards the shocked neighbour. Upon seeing that she meant business, and had no obvious respect for the Biblical passage about vengeance being the Lord’s, he ran out of the yard and up the road with her in hot pursuit. The chase ended when Marjorie ran out of wind and the culprit was successfully able to lock himself in his own house.
Matthew and Selina (See Inman History) had one son, Winfield Webster Gamble who was born in 1899. In 1923, he married Viola Barrett (see Crossman History) and, together, they bought the Major Barrett farm that is now part of the family homestead.
