Rev. Prince’s vegetable garden. Apparently he was growing a crop that they tried desperately to identify. Too embarrassed to admit their ignorance and ask, and too curious to let it slide, they waited for an ideal time to solve the mystery. On a moonlit midnight, they sneaked into his garden and dug up a sample of the mystery plant only to discover that it was peanuts! They carefully covered their tracks and never let the minister know about their late night investigation.
Wmfield and Viola had one son Harley, born in1928. In 1955, he married Olga Simpson and, within five years, they had two sons, Robert andJohn.
In 1993, Robert married Sherron Kickham in a joint Catholic] United Church ceremony at St. Pius the Tenth Church in Charlottetown. This practice of including both Catholic and Protestant faiths in their family affairs contin- ued with the baptism of their two children, Sara andjack. In ceremonies performed by Rev. Don MacPherson and Father Joe Brazell, they were the first children to be jointly baptized at the Lot 16 United Church.
John married Tanya Folland in August 1992. He passed away injanuary 1995 as the result of lung cancer. He is sur- vived by his wife Tanya, and their two children Kaitlin and johnathan. Tanya has since married Gary Mugridge. thibuted bl Robert Gamble
Gardiner-s of the Lyle Road
Montague Gardiner and his wife, Martha Ackland, set- tled on the Gardiner property on the Lyle Road in 1876. Their family was Richard, john, Bessie, Belle, and Emma. Three other children, Amiie (18), Stephen (10) and Ada (3) are buried at Lot 16 United with their parents. Richard (Dick) remained in Lot 16 and, at age twenty-two, married Adela (Della) Lyle in 1879, when she was seventeen. They had a family of seven: Florence (William Miller, see Miller History), Annie (Ben Pillman), Elsie, Sadie, Leslie, George, and Thomas. The Gardiners attended St. James Methodist Church. In 1952, they celebrated seventy-three years of marriage. They, and their daughter Florence Miller, are also buried at Lot 16 United. Eddie Clark has in his possession
