didn’t like the ship bound for Australia. She thought that one going to Canada was better so they embarked to Canada where Catherine had relatives on PEI.

The family arrived in Pictou, NS in 1855 and moved to Charlottetown to be near Catherine’s MacRae relatives. They had seven children and their son, Robert, moved to Lot 16 to live on land that his parents had purchased. This land was across the road from the church and just to the south. Robert Kirk later moved to Summerside.

Robert’s wife left him and some of the children and went out west to work. One of his sons, James, went to live with Alexander MacLean. James became like a brother to Alexander’s son, Harold.

James and Catherine’s daughter, Elizabeth, married William Hutchinson (see Hutchinson History). A son David (1848-1909), at age twenty-nine, built our present sanctuary 125 years ago. David and his wife are buried in Summerside. James, Catherine, and Robert are buried in the old Church of Scotland Cemetery in Wllmot.
