‘Well’, said the minister looking down at Hattie, who was a fine pianist, ‘Mrs. MacLean, it looks as if you are elected.’ Hattie stood to remove her coat before going to the organ, and upon taking it off, she was dismayed to see she had not removed her apron before donning her coat to come to church.
Garth MacLean was the only member of Mac and Hattie’s family to stay in Lot 16. He married Doreen, the only daughter of Harold MacLean (see Alexander Rod— erick). Together they operated the family farm and Garth was involved in transporting milk to various Island dairies. They had a family of foueranice (Charles Amos), Dwight (Jeannie Wismer), Bruce, and Vans (lVIargaret Hopkins). Garth and Doreen now live in their retirement house with son Bruce. Dwight and his wife,Jeannie, operate the family dairy farm. They have three sons, Jamie, Curtis, and Stewart. Dwight has been on the Board of Stewards and Jeannie has taught Sunday School. Garth served on the Board of Stewards; Doreen taught Sunday School and is still an active member of UCW
Roy E. MacLean, the second son of William James, bought 200 acres fromJoseph Lecky on the Central Road in 1910, where he farmed and raised foxes. He married Isabel MacGregor (see MacGregor History), great-granddaughter of Rev. William MacGregor, and they had four children: Gwendolyn (Frank MacNutt), Kenneth M. (Mary March- bank), Donald E. (Jean MacLeod), and Marjorie (NJ/V. Underwood). Isabel was involved in church groups, choir, and local plays. She lived to be 100 years old.
Kenneth M. MacLean took over the family farm in 1942 and married Mary Marchbank of New Arman. They have a family of four: Gail Archibald, Rev. Gloria, Marilyn (Dr. David Large), and K. Roy. They also have three grand- sons and four great-grandchildren.
Kenneth was president of the RBI. Federation of Agriculture (1959-60), and director of the National CFA during that time. Ken was interested in, and involved with, co-operatives serving at the local, provincial, national, and international level. In 1966, he was a delegate to the
