father’s footsteps and was the caretaker of the cemetery grounds and records. Jean was instrumental in the organiza- tion of the first Baby Band and was a leader in both Baby and Mission Band. She was a leader of the CGIT group until her untimely death in 1967. Some years after Jean’s death, Bill married Ella Tuplin Montgomery. Ella worked along with her husband in taking meticulous care of the cemetery.

Bill and Jean had one son, Douglas, who married Ruth Betton (see Betton History). Doug and Ruth are deeply involved in the Lot 16 United Church. Doug has served as elder and steward, and was chairman of the Church Extension Building Committee. Ruth was a CGIT leader for twenty years and is, at present, a choir member, an elder, and a mem- ber of the Pulpit Supply Committee. Ruth and Doug have two children, Debra Lynn and Wllliam Douglas (Billy). Billy is now involved in the family dairy farm and is a trustee of the Lot 16 United Church.

Alexander and Sarah’s daughters, Annie and Mae, moved to the US; Lillian (Lilly) married Alexander Roderick MacLean (see MacLean History). Henry also moved to the U.S. Their youngest son, Ed, married Blanche Colwill. They purchased the first farm on the left on the Lyle Road (in 2002 owned by the Wrights). They had twin daughters, Maisy and Gladys. Maisy married Ivan Clark (see Clark History), and Gladys mar- ried Eldon MacLean and moved to Charlottetown.

Monkley Family

Charles Hubert Havelock Monkley, the first Monkley res- ident in Lot 16, was born and raised in Birch Hill, PEI. In 1893, at the age of twenty-one, he moved to Lot 16. He bought his farm from Donald MacLean and, in 1898, married Isabelle Yeo, daughter ofJohn and Harriet Yeo. Isabelle (Belle) was born and raised in Southwest Lot 16. The couple had one son, Charles Ralph, born in 1908.

Charles Monkley was Anglican by birth, but, because there was no Church of England in Lot 16, he attended St. James Methodist Church with his wife. With Church Union,
